ABOUT FAIR FUND

FAIR Fund, a D.C. based international nonprofit organization, works to prevent human trafficking and sexual violence in the lives of youth, especially girls, around the world. FAIR Fund builds the capacity of communities to better identify and assist youth aged 11 to 24 who are at high risk or have been exploited via human trafficking and sexual violence. FAIR Fund has active programs in Bosnia, Chicago, Illinois, Serbia, Russia, Washington, D.C, and Uganda.

FAIR Fund approach combines preventative education workshops, outreach to exploited youth, and art therapy for girl survivors. FAIR Fund also provides adult ally training to teachers, social workers, educators, police, judges, lawyers, medical professionals, and students on how to best identify and assist high risk and sexually exploited or trafficked teens. Our team is comprised of a Board of Directors, 6 staff, 20 to 30 volunteers, and over 1,500 active college student allies who will become the leaders of the future youth anti-trafficking and sexual assault prevention movements. FAIR Fund is the proud co-chair of the D.C. Alliance of Youth Advocates Homeless Youth Committee.

Our international board of directors includes former diplomats, state department officials, authors, songwriters, anti-war advocates, World Bank officials, international philanthropists, human rights attorneys, and finance experts. In our first five years of operations, FAIR Fund has worked in 11 countries to assist over 15,000 young people and build the capacity of over 40 social service agencies to better identify and assist youths at risk.

Our funding comes from the U.S. Department of Justice, private European and U.S. foundations, individuals, and the Danish government. FAIR Fund is the co-chair of the  Washington D.C. Anti Trafficking Task Force’s Children’s Committee and has trained over 400 local and international law enforcement lawyers in anti-trafficking and child rights.

Our comprehensive strategy to protect youth from human trafficking and sexual violence worldwide

FAIR Fund trains local governmental officials, social workers, teachers, and local law enforcement on how to best protect youth in their communities from sexual violence and human trafficking. Our comprehensive training has reached 5,000 professionals in Bosnia, Croatia, Kenya, Serbia, Slovenia, Russia, Tanzania, cities throughout the United Strates, and Uganda.

Educating youth about how to keep themselves safe from sexual violence and human trafficking is a critical step in ending youth trafficking and exploitation. FAIR Fund utitilies two core curriculums that focus on rights based education and building lasting relationships with high risk youth. Tell Your Friends is a model FAIR Fund program piloted inside public high schools in Washington, D.C. This program has reached 2,000 youth in DC and is now being shared with teens in Belgrade, Chicago, Moscow, Novi Sad, and Kampala. Project Prepare! is a model program of FAIR Fund and the International Organization of Adolescence to prepare teens leaving orphan care and exiting refugee camps to lead productive adult lives and stay safe from all forms of human trafficking and sexual abuse. The program, piloted in Serbia and Bosnia in 2007/2008, has reached 165 teens and resulted in strategic partnerships with state orphanages, local businesses and nonprofits, and with youth clubs to comprehensively build a network of support that will ensure youth will more safely transition into brighter futures and adulthood.

Youth who have experienced situations of trafficking and sexual exploitation deserve a chance to rebuild their lives. FAIR Fund provides comprehensive care and services to teen girl survivors of human trafficking and sexual violence. Our model art therapy and economic empowerment program, JewelGirls, supports victimized girls as they transition into being independent young survivors. JewelGirls currently operates in Serbia, Russia, Washington DC, and Uganda where over 200 girls come together to better lives by learning how to make and sell their own unique jewelry while gaining skills in communications, marketing, finance, communications, and art. During their time as a JewelGirl, these young surivors also have full support from FAIR Fund's staff and learn to trust themselves and others again. JewelGirls is supported by celebrity sponsor, Gabrielle Christian.
